Xinhua Net Beijing Office December 30 (Journalist Fan Xi) The reporter has learnt from China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) that the largest underground railway station in Asia--Futian Station in Shenzhen, which was constructed by CRCC SIYUAN and No. 15 Bureau Group opened to traffic on December 30.

During the initial operation stage, Futian Station only starts the CRH trains towards Guangzhou South Railway Station. From the first day of its opening to January 9, 2016, there will be 11 pairs of CRH trains starting from this station and from January 10, the number of trains will increase to 23 pairs.

According to Mr. Wu Xiangong, Chairman of CRCC No. 15 Bureau Group, Futian Station is the landmark project in Shenzhen, as well as the demonstration project of China railway construction, especially the construction of large underground railway stations. As a large underground railway project in the built-up area in a city, it has not only solved zero distance transfer among high-speed railways, urban rail transit and ground transportation, but has also realized the dream that the high-speed railways reach the central areas of the city directly.

Relevant managing staff from Guangzhou Railway Group Corporation indicated that the operation of Futian Station for Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Passenger Dedicated Line (PDL) will be beneficial to the optimization of transport capacity organization and relief of the passenger transport pressure of Shenzhen North Railway Station.

Relevant managing staff from SIYUAN indicated that as an important railway transport hub, Futian Station will be beneficial to the development of regional economy in the Pearl River Delta. In particular, after the opening to traffic of the Hong Kong section of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong PDL, Hong Kong will integrate into the high-speed railway network in the mainland, which will have great significance for further promotion of economic, trade, cultural and personnel exchanges between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macau. At that time, it will take only 15 minutes and 30 minutes respectively by high-speed railway from Shenzhen and Guangzhou to Hong Kong, forming a “half-hour economic circle connecting Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong”.
