On January 8, 2016, National Awards for Science and Technology 2015 was held by the Party Central Committee and the State Council in the Great Hall in Beijing. Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway (Beijing-Shanghai HSR) designed by China Railway SIYUAN Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as SIYUAN) was awarded the National Grand Prize for Progress in Science and Technology. Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway is a strategic, centurial, historic and magnificent project among the significant infrastructure projects. It originates from Beijing South Railway Station, ends up in Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, passing through Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei Province, Shandong Province, Anhui Province, Jiangsu Province and Shanghai, with a total length of 1,318km, a total investment of 198.29 billion yuan and the design speed of 350km/h.
The main line of Xuzhou-Shanghai section in Beijing-Shanghai HSR designed by SIYUAN is 642km in length, passes through 135 large and medium bridges, accounting for 81% of the total length of this section. Danyang-Kunshan Extra-long Bridge, 164km long, is the longest high-speed railway bridge in the world so far. This section also covers 12 tunnels on the main line with the total length of 5.437km; 115.179km subgrade on the main line, accounting for 18% of the total length of this section.
Passing through the economically developed Yangtze River Delta and the vast North China Plain, Beijing-Shanghai HSR can be called the world landmarks of contemporary high-speed railway technological innovation. It does not only have an outstanding design concept with unique creativeness, but also takes the initiative on environmental protection and regional economic development promotion, and has become an innovative masterpiece of modern transportation development history of human beings.
After the project has been accomplished, it has won praises from hundreds of well-known media in the world. On the centennial celebration of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) held in Barcelona in Spain in 2013, it was awarded the prize of “Excellent Project of the Century”, which is the honor for only 18 projects in the world.
